Start with the path through the room
Before choosing another chair or table, draw the route people naturally take through the space. Keep that line clear and place the largest piece just outside it.
A compact swivel chair works especially well because it can face conversation, a window or the television without needing extra clearance.
Let storage earn its footprint
Use baskets, side tables and benches that solve more than one problem. Closed storage calms the visual field while natural texture keeps the room warm.
Build one quiet color story
Repeat two or three related neutrals, then add character through weave, grain and shape. The room will feel collected without becoming busy.
