Prepare the floor first
Vacuum or sweep before adding moisture. Hair, grit and crumbs are easier to remove dry and can otherwise collect in the mop head or drag across the finish.
Move lightweight obstacles and identify any floor sections that should not be damp mopped. Follow the floor manufacturer's instructions when they differ from general advice.
Use the correct amount of solution
Fill the bucket only to its marked line and use a floor cleaner at the label's recommended dilution. Extra concentrate does not necessarily clean better and can leave a film that attracts soil.
Keep different mop heads for bathrooms and shared living spaces if cross-contamination is a concern in your household.
Spin until the head is damp, not dripping
After rinsing, place the head fully in the wringer and operate the mechanism with the handle held as directed by the product. Repeat until the head feels damp enough to clean without leaving standing water.
Start with less moisture on sealed wood and laminate. Tile and vinyl may tolerate more, but puddles are rarely helpful.
Work backward and rinse regularly
Clean the farthest section first and move toward the exit. Overlap passes slightly, rinse when the head looks soiled and replace the water when it becomes cloudy.
Let the floor dry before replacing rugs. Rinse the bucket and wash reusable heads according to their care instructions after each use.
