Confirm that the finish is intact
This routine is intended for sealed hardwood in good condition. If the finish is worn, the boards are damaged or you are unsure what coating was used, follow the flooring manufacturer’s instructions or ask a flooring professional before adding moisture.
Remove grit before damp cleaning
Vacuum with a hard-floor setting or use a clean dry microfiber pad first. Removing grit reduces the chance that particles will drag across the finish during mopping.
Pay attention to entryways, dining areas and the edges where debris collects.
Use a lightly damp pad
Apply only the amount of cleaner recommended for your floor and tool. A refillable spray mop or thoroughly wrung microfiber head helps control moisture better than pouring water directly onto the floor.
Work with the grain in manageable sections, and do not let liquid pool along seams or under furniture.
Let the floor dry before replacing rugs
Allow the surface to dry fully before replacing rugs, mats or furniture protectors. Wash reusable pads separately according to their care directions so they are ready for the next cleaning session.
